The Disruptive Ink Story
Every legacy has its roots in humble beginnings. The herstory of the Disruptive Ink brand is outlined below from a life changing injury to the new opportunities it has afforded.
The story begins…
A rising soccer star with plans to attend and play for the University of North Carolina’s Tar Heels, Sandra’s dreams were shattered with a devastating knee injury her senior year. While recovering, she turned to art to heal. As the proverbial saying goes, when one door closes, another opens and Sandra realized she was meant to do art. She was accepted to the top five art schools in the country and decided to stay local and attend the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. A decision that began the journey of where she is today.
In her 16 years of being an artist and muralist, one of the art mediums that Sandra was drawn to was tattooing. She began apprenticing and specializing in black work, fine detail, trash polka, and watercolor tattoos. To date, Sandra has been professionally tattooing for six years and she works closely with her clients to take their concepts, interpret it artistically, and bring it to life. It is always goal #1 that clients leave with a piece that they truly love and that reflects them and where they are at any particular moment in their life’s journey.
A partnership is born…
Rarely featured on these pages, Disruptive Ink Tattoo Studio co-owner, Holly, is the backbone and heartbeat of the shop. She handles quite a bit of the scene logistics to keep the shop functioning as smoothly as it does. In addition to her regular full-time job, you can find her working in the shop nights and weekends growing the Disruptive Ink Tattoo Supply business, doing inventory, stocking supplies, doing maintenance, and all the other unglamorous stuff that comes with running a business.
Holly and Sandra first met in 2016. In addition to doing life together, they found a natural affinity in one another with their entrepreneurial talents and aspirations. When not at the shop, the two enjoy spending time with their blended family that includes 9-year old twins, an elderly chihuahua, a feisty kitty, and two guinea pigs. Together, they enjoy traveling, wildlife viewing, flipping storage sheds, partaking in culinary adventures (not by choice), and wedding planning.
